Squarey Monster 117

Today's monster (actually yesterday's monster - man, am I a slacker or what?) is Gargor, a friendly little dude you definitely want in your life.

Gargor
This is a monster you definitely want to have around. His horns look dangerous, but they’re actually there to help you stay in place when you stand up in the bath or take a shower. Gargor is a Sliplessagriptic, a microscopic creature who works with millions of his best friends to stay under your feet when you walk on slippery surfaces. They only like to work with bare feet, though, so don’t expect them to be around when you slip on the ice.

Squarey Monster 116 (Pixelpus)

Pixelpus
This is the one-of-a-kind creature who eats pixels inside all kinds of digital displays. Your monitor, your smart phone, your tablet even your television — none of these are safe. Pixelpus is currently green, but he can be red or blue too. It really depends on which pixels he’s recently eaten more recently. After all, you are what you eat.

Squarey Monster 115 (Victor Villainous)

Today's Squarey Monster is another meanie. Stay away!

Victor Villainous
*Snarl!* Nobody is safe around Victor Villainous. He’s a backstabbing Squarey Monster who would sell his own seamstress to get wax for his mustache. He keeps all sorts of sneaky ideas under his hat, and that seems to be the source of his wily powers. Take his hat away, and he’s embarrassed by his baldness. He’ll run and hide until he can cover his head again. There’s no getting on his good side, so just stay away from Victor Villainous!

Monster 110 (Tango-go)

Today's monster is another G.Mod. Orange you glad you didn't eat him?

Tango-go
This creature is an arrange-a-tang of the G.Mod genus. Typically an arrange-a-tang is a citrus creature who can shape-shift, or “arrange” itself into any shape to suit any meal. They’re goal in life is pretty much to be eaten; so as genetically modified fruit monsters they’ll hide in recipes, and wait for you. Tango-go in particular likes party food. Unfortunately for him, since very few people have good, nutritious food at parties he remains uneaten. Fortunately for you his G.Mod horns won’t get you.

Squarey Monster 104 (Pirate Monster)

Today's Squarey Monster is inspired by, and in honor of International Talk Like A Pirate Day!

Rebooty
Beware of pirate software and pirate files on your computer. Rebooty is a pirate monster who goes through your computer dropping viruses and worms in the works. He only leaves these booby traps in places where he finds pirated items. Don’t download illegally, and he’ll leave your computer alone. If you don’t head his warning he’ll hijack your ship, and sink it!

Squarey Monster 101 (Clikz)

Clikz
Nobody knows what Clikz is or where he comes from, but rumor has it he emerged from the internet when it first went live. He monitors internet chat, and manipulates it. It’s his goal to make sure agreements can never happen in forums, status threads or chat rooms. He eats punctuation, and mangles sentence structure so that no one can ever understand anyone else’s point. It’s easiest to avoid him by steering clear of any arguments on the interwebs.

Squarey Monster 95 (Brian)

Today's Squarey Monster is a typo :P

Brian
He’s not the brightest bulb, and neither was his (unknown) inventor. His name was supposed to be “Brain,” but it was spelled wrong on his Assembly Certificate. Brian is terrible at spelling, and forget asking him to transcribe anything. Typo City! But one thing he’s really good at is helping you read your way through typo-laden and mistake-filled emails. He is fluent in Leet speak, but his specialty is random character messes. 1f U k3n r34d 7h1s h3 l1k3s U.

Squarey Monster 92 (Gurgle)

Today's Squarey Monster is a Fiendtique dedicated to everyone who lost power during the hurricane.

Gurgle
Meet the creature from the Blackout Lampoon. When the lights go out during a storm you can rely on Gurgle to provide you with tons of fun. Just be sure to fill the tub with water so he’s got a place to stay. He’s there in the dark waiting to scare away the rain, and make us laugh. He’s really good at coming up with stuff to laugh about when the situation seems dire. “What? You can’t see an inch in front of your face, and you stepped in the litter box?”

Squarey Monster 75 (boo!)

Boo! Sometimes work and life get in the way, and it's impossible to work on the 365 project. I'll catch up, and also make up for it with some more bonus monsters.

Meanwhile, today's Squarey Monster is inspired by the past. My brother and I somehow had it in our head that ghosts can't hurt you, but if you encounter a green ghost you have to run because green ghosts are the only ghosts that can actually kill you. If anyone can provide some insite to that belief, I'd love to hear it. Was it Alfred Hitchcock or Hardy Boys lore? Anyway, don't worry. This guy won't do that.

Ecto Echo
The ghost of memories past, Ecto Echo rattles his chains to remind you of things you may have forgotten. Ecto Echo takes key words from your chitchat, and uses them to trigger memories that take you out of the conversation, causing you to stammer and moan like a ghost. Don’t let the flubs get to you, though. Ecto Echo has a way of only interrupting the boring conversations, anyway.

Squarey Monster 69 (A blabbing Mumangle)

Today's Squarey Monster is a blabbermouth!

Shushy
This Fiendtique might look a lot like our friend Hushy the Mumangle, but he’s not Hushy. He’s nothing like him. Hushy’s motto is, “Mum’s the word,” but Shushy can’t stop blabbing! He’s a Mumangle, alright, but that’s where their similarities end. Shushy repeats everything at the most inopportune times. Whatever you do, keep your secrets under wraps when he’s around if you want to preserve your reputation!

Squarey Monster 68 (watermelon monster)

Thanks to Nancy for her suggestion! Today's Squarey Monster is a watermelon monster!

Melon E.4
Have you ever seen the long term results of genetically modified foods? At some point in the process they become living beings! They’re dangerous creatures, and they are not to be meddled with. These crazy Squarey creatures (sometimes known as G.Mods) would like nothing more than to make you feel yucky. Melon E.4 is the worst of the watermelon G.Mods, but that doesn’t mean Melon A.1 through Melon E.3 won’t spit their seeds at you!

Squarey Monster 61 (a Frombie named Stan)

Today's Squarey Monster is influenced by my recent stand pipe finds. They can be so expressive!

Stan
Every once in a while there are scraps of metal and hardware that come together and form life. No one knows how this happens, but it’s true! The result looks a lot like a robot, but that’s not what they are at all. They’re called Frombies because nobody knows where they’re from, and they act like zombies. Stan is made from water works parts. He just goes around looking for water all the time. That’s all he wants. On hot days he can be heard to moan, “Raaaaiins!”

Squarey Monster 58 (Gigantique)

Today's Squarey Monster just might step on you…

Gigantique
There is a secret society of black and white Squarey Monsters called Classique Fiendtiques. They hold allegiance to the idea that monsters should be black & white like the ones in old monster movies. Gigantique is an enormous rubber monster who escaped from the shackles of the past, and bounces around from city to city looking for vintage monster movie props. He likes to collect postcards from all the cities he visits. Your home town could be next. Leave out some radioactive milk and cookies if you want to avoid getting crunched.

Squarey Monster 57 (a Fiendtique)

Today's Squarey Monster is a classic Fiendtique.

Vintagia
There is a secret society of black and white Squarey Monsters called Classique Fiendtiques. They hold allegiance to the idea that monsters should be black & white like the ones in old monster movies. Vintagia has a specific hobby of devouring as many old monster movies as he can, sucking up all kinds of trivial information about them. He knows the names of all the best drive-in monster movies, and he enjoys nothing as much as sharing them with you if you treat him to a bucket of popcorn.

Squarey Monster 56 (Needelman)

Today's Squarey Monster can help you find missing things, but they don't always get found in the the condition you'd like…

Needelman
This is a squarey sea-creature called a Quadracal. His name is Needelman. When he needs something his walks around on the sea floor with his two squishy feet while grabbing aimlessly with his four tentacles. What his tentacles miss his spiny needle spikes spear. Since he breaths air he can do the same thing in a windstorm or a messy room. Lost something in your room? Let Needelman loose, and he’ll reach and grab until he finds it! He’s probably really good in one of those money wind booths.

Squarey Monster 54 (Ridicula)

Today's Squarey Monster is a candy vampire (better known as a "notsferustochew")

Ridicula
So you think vampires suck blood, huh? Well that’s mostly true, but some want nothing but…candy. Yep, that’s right — chocolate, suckers, lollipops, chews, bars, crispy cookie thingies — you name it. Thing is. Ridicula can’t eat the candy himself. He’s only got the two fangs you see, and no molars for chewing. He ate a ridiculous amount of candy before he joined the ranks of the undead, and he lost all his teeth. Instead he satiates himself vicariously through you by enticing YOU to eat ridiculous amounts of candy! Sounds like a yummy enemy to have.

Squarey Monster 45 (Redusa)

Meet Redusa. She's going to make you start over…but you'll never, ever finish.

Redusa
Did you know that the Gorgon, Medusa had a little sister? Her name is Redusa. If you look directly at her you will be reduced to your infant form. All your adult problems will go away, but you’ll have a whole new set of problems — like not being able to chew your food, and having incontrollable bathroom breaks. This seems like it’s no big deal since you’ve been through it before; but this time you’ll remember every single warm and gooey episode. Oh, and did I mention it’s forever? You’ll never grow out of it. Stay away from Redusa!

This past week has been a tough one personally. I was not often in a situation where I could design a Squarey Monster (let alone upload since I was off the grid). Family health has to come first.

Squarey Monster 35 (drool)

We're almost 1/10th through with this project. Scary! Ahem…Squarey! I already don't want it to end!

Here's today's Squarey Monster…

Drool
Whenever you get hungry or thirsty microscopic creatures congregate inside your mouth. They know if you’re hungry you’ll be eating soon. They’re collectively known as “drool.” They live in your saliva, and they eat your food when you put it in your mouth! It’s nothing to worry about. You’ll hardly miss the small amount they consume. But they can be annoying when you’re asleep. They love the comfort of a soft pillow, so if your mouth is anywhere near one when you sleep they like to sneak out for a rest.

Squarey Monster 33 (Dodger is alive in my hallway!)

I hope I don't get into trouble for this one. It's Dodger, one of my favorites from the original 9 Squarey Monsters (before the 365 Project started).

This harks back to Squarey Monster #31. I had to illustrate what I was seeing in the emergency light fixture. Luckily, those things are all over the place. This one is in the Hallway just outside my studio (Monkey Doodle Dandy).

Of course, so the lights would still function properly I cut the eye printouts to be hollow for the effect of eyes, but so the lights will shine through in emergency. I printed the tail and eyes on sticker paper, and the body on a magnetic sheet so any technicians needing to use the test button can just peel it away (temporarily, please).

I noticed last minute that the plastic cap over the bulb was missing on one light, and I had to scavenge one from another area of the building. They must be in high demand in a building full of artist studios because every single fixture had at least one cap missing!
