Flowers for a City in Mourning

On Sept. 11, 2001, the country stood still, watching helplessly as smoke rose over the New York City skyline. In the days that followed, people who had felt powerless found ways to act by donating supplies, supporting first responders, and showing up for grieving neighbors.

As we mark 1-800-Flowers’ 50th year, the way our people stepped forward after 9/11 stands out as an important chapter in our history. They found their own way to contribute, using what we knew best — flowers — to help New York mourn and honor the thousands of lives lost that day.
