An Unfinished Project

In the summer of 1776, a mismatched group of builders, farmers, lawyers, and shopkeepers spent months arguing over whether to break away from an empire—and what kind of country they should build instead. They never got to see how it would turn out. Neither will we.

Every generation since has inherited that same unfinished project, added to it, and passed it along. In 50 years, America turns 300. I keep wondering what we’re leaving the people who get there.
