A Note From Jim and Chris: Celebrating Local Heroes This Holiday Weekend

Remember Our Service Heroes

Even with the pandemic, we'll mark Independence Day this weekend with cookouts and fireworks. We'll gather in much smaller groups and may be limited to sparklers in the back yard and a parade of grandchildren and pets, but we'll find some way to honor our Country or to celebrate this holiday. A Time for Reflection We will do our best to make this year's holiday memorable, and we were interested in hearing ways our team members and community plans to celebrate: What we heard inspired us, and more than one will spend the time remembering people who've sacrificed more than most and some who've sacrificed everything — our soldiers, sailors and Marines. Jeanne, who has been with our Company for 20+ years in sales, customer service, billing and reception, is beyond excited for this Fourth of July. Her son, Billy, serves as a telecommunications specialist sergeant in the Army and, because of the pandemic, gets to spend some extra time with Jeanne over the holiday. Don, a vice president of logistics and an Air Force veteran, will have a more private and solemn remembrance. On the Fourth, he usually visits a local cemetery to visit the graves of fallen service members. He spends time reflecting on their lives, their loss and what they and their families have sacrificed for our country. Celebrate Service Jessica, senior manager of online marketing, is the proud granddaughter of an Air Force fighter pilot and a World War II Army veteran. Their children and grandchildren have continued their legacy through service in the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines, many of whom are now on active duty. Jessica will celebrate the service and heritage of her family. We love the idea of thinking about our military on this occasion. Their bravery and valor are unmatched, and they must be appreciated every single day, but especially at a time we celebrate the founding of our country. We also suggest that we also should take time this holiday weekend to recognize people who help every day to make our way of life possible — especially those #localheroes who've helped keep us afloat during the last few months — to name a few, doctors and nurses, grocers, delivery drivers, postal carriers and teachers. Drop them a note, text or just a big "thank you" to let them know how much you appreciate what they do every day. We also want to know which local heroes you will be thinking about this weekend.
