Last week we talked about how Father's Day is a wonderful opportunity to tell the Dads, or any father figures, in your life how proud you are of their hard work and the great job they do. We shared a few stories near and dear to our hearts about our father and about the kind words our children have said to us that we will remember forever. We invited you to share stories of a father that you're thankful for in your own lives and all the ways you've expressed your appreciation. We were touched by the messages you shared and encourage more of you to share your fondest memories with your dad and the Father's Day gifts you shared. Our Light In A Storm We heard about Barbara Bump Iskra's Dad who she described as a patient teacher. Barbara's Dad called her at 9 pm every night and asked, "what did you do for the good of the world today? Always remember you are loved." What an incredible ritual. Melissa Mazzur told us about how when she was little, she would paint stones with treats that she would "redeem" for time with her Dad. This could be an hour of play time, fishing, or a movie date – anything for some special one on one time! Melissa has passed this tradition on to her kids and they love it as well. Then there is Julie Barta's Dad. Julie has carried her father in her heart since he passed away in 1998, whom she described as her "light in a storm." Julie told us how her Dad taught her to be able to take care of herself through learning how to work on cars and trying to fix whatever was broken on her own. Most importantly, her Dad supported her through her divorce. You Inspire Us Kay Kepley has four sons/sons-in-law, and agrees with us about the power of receiving words of affirmation. Kay shared that she sends each of her son's cards and texts on Father's Day to make sure they all feel loved and special. Kay, you inspired us to do the same and put these important reminders to connect on our calendar. These calendared events are important because they remind us to take the time to tell the people in our lives that we love and admire them. We've saved piles of handmade cards through the years and treasure these mementos from our kids and grandkids that express their love for us as they've grown themselves. We wish you an enjoyable Father's Day. We're reminded of the words of the professional boxer Ken Norton: "of all the titles I've been privileged to have, 'Dad' has always been the best." We couldn't agree more.
