| | | | | | | We've officially said hello to summer, and there's a lot to look forward to in the season ahead. This is a favorite time of year for many (myself included), and the beautiful weather is only part of what makes it so special. Of course, as your resident fruit expert, some of the things I'm most excited about are also the most delicious.
The focus of this month is a fruit you all know and love: cherries. From the cherry on top of your ice cream sundae to the thick filling in your pie, this distinctive fruit has a way of showing up in our summer celebrations. The fact that they're red makes them particularly popular in patriotic desserts around the Fourth of July.
Cherries aren't uniquely American, however—there are more than 1,000 varieties of cherries grown across the globe. The United States produces more than 650 million pounds of tart and sweet cherries each year, and Oregon and Washington are responsible for about 60 percent of that crop. Here at Harry & David, we work closely with partners in the Pacific Northwest to bring you the very best Plump-Sweet Cherries.
Cherry season is a lot like summer—wonderful while it's here, but gone all too soon. I encourage you to order your share now, so you can make these juicy gems a part of your summer.
