| | | | | | | Our trees have bloomed, the bees have pollinated, and so far, everything is looking good in the pear and peach orchards. We've still got a few months before go-time, but that's not to say that our crews are standing by idly. This is prime time for thinning the peach trees to encourage larger fruit at harvest and monitoring the irrigation and fertilization that keep our trees thriving.
While it's still early in the peach and pear seasons, this month's featured fruit is ripe and ready to eat. The honey mango is a tropical sensation that quite simply tastes like summer, with both a distinctive tang and a rich sweetness. Honey mangoes are slightly smaller than typical mangoes, and they feature notes of other fruits like citrus, peach, and pineapple.
Like all sweet fruits, mangoes are delicious whirled in smoothies and paired with desserts. But one of my favorite ways to enjoy mangoes is with a little kick of heat in a spicy mango salsa. Bring a dish to your next barbecue and you'll have everyone scrambling for seconds, I guarantee you.
